What is Civilization

Nowadays we always hear the phrase "we are living in a civilized society". In actual fact, do we really know that what is civilized society or civilization? How was the history of civilization started? Civilization comes from the Arabic word Maddana, Mudun, Madain, which means the opening of a city or community in terms of material progress and spiritual. Other terms of similar meaning in civilization are: Umran, Hadarah and Medinan. Civilization in the English word comes from the Greek meaning civitas city. The word civilization can be defined to the public lives of more progress. Characteristics of civilized society are higher form of religion, peaceful and tidy country, the legal system, city life, language and writing system development, forms of art and special architecture. Most of this is keep evolution since long time ago. Higher form of religion, at the beginning of century, they have their own religion such as animism until nowadays they have the Islamic, Buddhists, and Hinduism as the main religion in our country. Peaceful and tidy country is a symbolic of civilization. This is because to be civilize country, there must be no more war engaged. There must be a negotiation or agreement between each country to avoid war. Legal system also plays an important role in a country. It can minimize the crime rate and to give the fairness to people which will result in a harmonized country.
Furthermore we can see much improvement from languages, writing systems and architecture designs in various countries, which was invented and applied by our ancestor. Technology improvement is the biggest evidence to show that we are living in a civilized society. Civilization not only occurs in a country, but is all happens over the world.
